The BYU-I Theatre faculty reviewed the proposal. Brother Merrill volunteered to be a representative who will bridge the gap between the Summer Camp committee and the faculty.
The Faculty are extremely excited for the camp as it moves forward and they have confidence that it will succeed.
After speaking with Bro. Merrill these are several things that need to be accomplished soon:
Write criteria for teacher positions. So that we might be able to hire people who are qualified to teach certain subject matter.
Make a working list of the what the specific benefits of the camp for the parents and the students would be. For example:
The resources available.
They’ll be exposed to the meshing of acting and technical skills.
The camp will provide a quality theater experience, uplifting and safe environment.
The participants will be mentored by college students, encouraged to pursue a higher education.
Run by experienced theater students.
We need to come up with a NEW NAME for the camp. A name that clearly defines what the program is and who it is being run by. For example: The 2011 Summer Theatre Camp: BYU-I Style!! organized by Experienced College Students.
There must develop a "Paper Trail." (What’s being taught, who’s teaching it, what’s their qualifications, etc.) There shouldn’t be any holes in the process.
How to clearly articulate the student program to the faculty.
Develop specific goals for the camp and for each subject being taught.
Refining of the schedule.
This camp will be associated with BYU-I; we are the "face" of BYU-Idaho for the participants and the parents.
What are we going to do about access to supplies during the summer break, because faculty will not be on the clock and not on campus. We propose that trusted students who have worked in certain disciplines (such as Scotty and Matt in Props) will be given a key to that area.
